Workshops

Since opening our doors in 2004, over 800 participants have attended workshops offered by the Nonprofit Enterprise Center (NpEC).  Of the participants who attended in 2006, 100% rated our workshops as Excellent or Very Good.

Workshops are available to all community-based groups, individuals and nonprofit organizations. They are designed to develop skills and understanding of concepts that strengthen organizations. Workshops allow participants to work through exercises and share ideas about what has been successful among the varying participants. Various interactive and learning approaches as well as a wide variety of presenters are used to bring this information to the community. Workshop topics include:

Nonprofit Sustainability and Impact

This three part seminar is designed for upper level management of nonprofit organizations. It is ideal for Executive Directors and CEO’s that are struggling with fewer resources and unengaged boards. The session will include valuable information on finding resources, what Executive Directors/CEO’s can do to increase board impact and effectiveness. It will also include information on collaboration and Leadership. This one day seminar will feature nationally/regionally recognized presenters.

Introductory Course for Standards of Excellence

Nonprofit organizations provide critical programs and services to their communities, and they depend on contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations. In today’s environment, nonprofit board and staff members must learn about managing and leading effective and efficient nonprofit organizations. Attend the Introductory Course for Standards for Excellence workshop to learn about a nationally recognized program for benchmarks and standards for nonprofit organizations. This workshop will discuss the importance of standards, the eight guiding principles, and 54 standards in the Standards for Excellence program. The eight guidelines will cover Mission, Governing Body, Conflict of Interest, Human Resources, Financial and Legal, Openness, Fundraising, and Public Affairs and Public Policy. Rose Mary Fry, Texas Nonprofit Management Assistance Network, will be the workshop presenter; she is the only licensed consultant trainer in Texas for this program.

Forming a 501 (c)3

This workshop will cover all legal aspects of forming a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, as well as the ethics and procedures to consider before forming an organization. It includes material on the certificates of formation, Bylaws, Minutes, and other organizational documents. The session will also cover legal and tax aspects of obtaining tax-exempt status, including an explanation of the IRS Form 1023

Working with Volunteers

Working with volunteers has a completely different set of rules from working with paid employees. Come learn how to manage volunteers effectively; assign appropriate tasks and appropriate supervisors. Learn how to increase your volunteer pool; how to recruit the volunteers you need to get the job done. This workshop will also go over tips and rules on how to train volunteers for better effectiveness, and how to best recognize the people who do so much for you and your organization.

This intense four (4) day seminar is designed for beginners as well as more experienced grant writers. The seminar is comprehensive, covering all aspects of grant writing – from “executive summary” to “budget.” The seminar is unique in that participants are provided with grants that could fund their organization. Grant writing experts will provide instruction and serve as coaches as the participants practice the skill of drafting proposals. The seminar also includes “impact tips” which is information on how to increase the odds that your grant will be funded. This “hands-on” seminar is designed to give participants the opportunity to write a proposal and receive immediate feedback during the four day session. The seminar is interactive and provides two written manuals on “how to write a proposal.”

Layoffs- Do's and Don'ts
